Franklin Rural Electric Cooperative, in collaboration with Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of Iowa, is proud to announce the winners of the fourth annual Shine the Light contest, which celebrates the cooperative’s commitment to the community. The contest, held throughout June, invited Iowans to nominate volunteers who are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in their communities.
This year, the contest received 75 nominations from across the state, showcasing the remarkable efforts of many dedicated individuals. After careful consideration, three winners were selected, including Franklin County resident Doug Pralle.
Pralle has been recognized as a 2024 Shine the Light winner for his work with Compassion Flights, a nonprofit organization he founded in 2017. Compassion Flights provides free air transportation for individuals in need of medical treatment.
As part of the Shine the Light contest, Compassion Flights was awarded $4,000, which includes contributions from Franklin REC and CoBank’s Sharing Success fund. This support will further the organization’s mission and help continue providing assistance to those in need.
