The AGWSR volleyball team will begin conference play Thursday by hosting #10 (1A) Gladbrook-Reinbeck in NICL-West action.
The Cougars (3-2) will have their first match in a week. They bounced back from a 1-2 outing at a quad at #14 (2A) Grundy Center to open the season by sweeping a home triangular with Iowa Falls-Alden and South Tama. An extremely balanced offense is led by Brylea Metzgar’s 19 kills. Setter Trevyn Smith has 18.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck (4-2, 0-0 NICL-W) is coming off a 2-1 outing at a quad at Montezuma, where they defeated the hosts and HLV and lost to Williamsburg. Kennedy Brant has 22 kills to lead the team, but they serve at just 86 percent. However, they’re a strong blocking team with a division-high 25.
The Cougars went 3-1 against the Rebels last year, including a 3-0 sweep in the conference match. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
