Clarksville Football to Face Dunkerton in Home Opener Thursday

The Clarksville football team will defend its home field for the first time this season as they host Dunkerton in their district opener on Thursday.

Clarksville, at 1-1, enters off a 46-7 win in a long trip to North Iowa last week. The Indians’ offense got rolling behind three touchdowns by sophomore Nathan Moon, and a touchdown apiece by junior Kaiven Kielman and freshman Boden Miller in win over Bison.

Clarksville Head Coach Darren Bohlen says the team enters the matchup hungry and will look to make the most of being home.

“The kids have practiced hard this week, I think we probably had our best practice on Monday that we’ve had all year,” says Bohlen. “The kids are hungry to get district play started. The first two away games, they were a good distance. It’s going to be nice just to be able to settle in and play a home game. Do a little relaxing before the game, so we get a little bit more focused before the start. Hopefully we can get out to a good start from the first quarter on.”

Dunkerton, at 1-0, won its season opener 40-8 over West Central last week. The Raiders were led by the ground game of senior Ty Lindquist, who rushed for 214 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Lindquist also led the defense with eight tackles.

Bohlen says the defense enters off a quality performance and needs to be physical to limit Raiders.

“Last week only giving up seven points to a North Iowa team who had some good athletes, speaks volumes for our kids. We had times where we bent a little bit, we hunkered down and we kept them out of the end zone for the most part. Our defense is getting better, they’re getting more comfortable. Our guys up front are getting more physical. The key I think this week is just being physical up front.”

Clarksville won last year’s meeting 44-22 at Dunkerton.
