Several NICL cross country teams will join some non-conference opponents at the Pine Lake Run hosted by South Hardin Thursday. It’ll be the season opener for Aplington-Parkersburg, Dike-New Hartford, Grundy Center and the hosts after last week’s scheduled meets were cancelled due to heat.
Aplington-Parkersburg coach Jonna Junker says it’s a meet worth preparing extra for due to the course’s hilliness.
“The kids’ favorite is Pine Lake, and I say that sarcastically,” Junker says. “They always like to get that one out of the way right away. Not a favorite course, but it’s just good to see the kids get out there and really work hard. We try to do a couple of hill workouts before we go over to Pine Lake. So they know that’s coming. It’ll be good to get some times in Bound and see what work they’ve put in so far these past couple weeks.”
The meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
