The 146th annual Iowa Firefighters Association Convention is being held in Iowa Falls from now through Sunday.

Iowa Falls Fire Chief Scott Eisentrager tells Radio on the Go News it takes a lot of planning and volunteers to host this event.

“Merchandise, so there’s more people, so raffle, have to have people at the check-in gate because you have to be a registered member of the Iowa Firefighters Association to get into the convention so it takes a lot of people to make it happen and then going into Saturday of Convention we will have competitions up town that will last anywhere from probably about eight to two in the afternoon So and then we’ll finish off Saturday night and then get into Sunday where people start returning back to their cities.”

Those competitions Eisentrager referred to will be held Saturday at Estes Park.

“I mean, everybody’s kind of seen the water fights on the barrel, shooting it back and forth. But there’s seven other drills, including a Chief’s Race, there’s a 50-yard dash. You look at these drills, it’s all skills that we use every day in the fire service.”

The Iowa Firefighters Association has about 15,500 members and was first organized in 1879.
