The #12 (2A) Grundy Center volleyball team will host AGWSR in a North Iowa Cedar League-West match on Tuesday.
AGWSR (5-5, 1-0 NICL-West) went 1-3 at the North Tama tournament on Saturday, with a win over HLV and losses to #13 (3A) Union, Waterloo Christian and #9 (1A) North Tama. The duo of junior Brylea Metzgar and senior Trevyn Smith lead the Cougars front line with 36 kills apiece.
Grundy Center (5-3, 0-1 NICL-West) went 2-2 at the North Tama tournament on Saturday, with wins over North Tama and Waterloo Christian, and losses to Union and #8 (1A) Gladbrook Reinbeck. Sophomore Ryanne Brubaker has risen to the occasion in an everyday varsity role, leading the Spartans in kills (50) and blocks (14).
Grundy Center Head Coach Lori Willis on Brubaker’s growth and how teammates rally around her.
“Just the ability to come off the net and come back onto the net, blocking, timing, hitting the ball deep rather than just always trying to bury the ball,” says Willis. “She’s going to continue to get better. I think her teammates do a fantastic job with her because she wants to skip ahead to her senior year. She wants to jump ahead to where she’s going to be because she knows the potential that she has. Her teammates do a good job of keeping her calm, focused and dialed in.”
This will be the second meeting this season; Grundy Center won 2-0 over AGWSR as part of a home quad on August 27.
The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ beginning at 7:20 p.m. First serve is at 7:30 p.m. at Grundy Center.
