The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team was unable to hold on after a smooth start, and fell 3-1 at home to Humboldt in North Central Conference action Tuesday. The Wildcats won 12-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-13.
In the first set, the Bulldogs raced out to a 12-4 lead, but the Wildcats scored five straight to cut the deficit to three. That’s when Hampton-Dumont-CAL had their best scoring run of the night, scoring 13 of the next 15 for a commanding win.
In set 2, Humboldt turned a 6-5 deficit into a 14-6 lead, taking control on their way to tying the match at 1-1.
In set 3, the Bulldogs fought close to a 13-11 deficit, but Humboldt controlled the rest of the set for a 2-1 lead.
It was all Wildcats in the fourth set, which led by as many as 21-4. The Bulldogs scored nine of the final 13 points, but the deficit was too big to climb out of.
Addison Aalbers and Aubryee Showalter each had eight kills. Mallory Rieken had four blocks. Hampton-Dumont-CAL (2-1, 1-1 NCC) will return to action Thursday at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on 104.9 KLMJ.
