AGWSR seeking revenge against North Tama Friday

The AGWSR football team (1-1, 1-0 A-3) will look for its second straight win when it hosts North Tama in a Class A District 3 matchup Friday.

Head Coach James Koop is hoping to see another step taken by the defense. After being torched by the Lake Mills option offense in Week 1, they made some adjustments that contributed to a 14-13 win over BCLUW in Week 2.

“I thought our defense as a whole played better responsibility football,” Koop says. “And I think that showed. BCLUW’s drives, the one touchdown was a long, long, long drive. And the other one was due to a turnover on our part. So the defense played okay as a whole, again, there’s some adjustments we weren’t making and stuff like that, but again, it was a group effort and they did a pretty good job.”

North Tama (0-2, 0-1 A-3) is coming off a 27-6 home loss to #7 (A) Nashua-Plainfield last week, where they gave up two fourth quarter touchdowns. It’ll be a familiar scouting report due to many of last year’s players being back. Koop says containing quarterback Kolt Knaack will be a focal point.

“He torched us last year throwing the ball and running the ball. So we’ve got to look back to what we did last year and do it different or better this coming Friday night. They were 0-2 last year too, coming in and then they buried us. So I hope our kids want to get some payback, but again, we’re going to have to make some adjustments if we’re going to keep progressing in the positive direction.”

The Redhawks won 34-18 last year. The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
