The Iowa Falls-Alden volleyball team will defend its home court for the first time since August 27 when they take on St. Edmond in North Central Conference play on Thursday.
IFA (4-4, 1-0 NCC), in recent action, went 2-2 at the Charles City tournament on Saturday, with wins over Mason City and Riceville, and losses to Decorah and #14 (4A)Charles City. Sophomore Carlea Dagel is tied for fourth in the NCC in kills with 64, and senior Brooklyn Handeland leads the conference in digs with 99.
Cadet Head Coach Betsy Dunphy on the progression of Handeland and how the team strives to be better.
“Brooklyn Handeland has really come along, so proud of her and how hard she’s working and how she’s settling into some roles in the back row. She’s really solid and you can just see it every day. She’s figuring out something else that she can do just a little bit better, and then she does it,” says Dunphy. “That’s what I’ve asked of the girls this year is about getting 1% better every day, we’re making daily deposits. We believe that we want to be playing our best volleyball at the end of the season. We’re staying focused on the things that we can control and then really kind of dialing in. To make sure that we’re doing those things that we can control with consistency and efficiency.”
St.Edmond (5-2, 0-1 NCC) in last match lost 3-1 to Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Thursday, September 5. Senior Mariah Meyers is tied for fourth in NCC in kills with 64 and senior Sasha Hess is second in the conference in digs with 97.
The Gaels won last year’s meeting 3-0 in Fort Dodge.
First serve is at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls.
