The Belmond-Klemme football team will remain on the road for a second week in a row as they face North Union in Class A District 2 action on Friday.
B-K (0-2, 0-1 district) enters off a tough 59-23 road loss in district opener to #3(A) West Hancock last week. The Broncos offense has slightly favored the run with 190 rushing yards to 139 passing yards. Sophomore Brody Heifner leads the team in passing yards(136), rushing yards(64) and tackles(16.5). Sophomore Kysen Lamb leads all Broncos receivers with five receptions for 50 yards.
Broncos Head Coach Josh Faaborg says they need to take on the opportunity to continue to mature.
“Ultimately, we just need to focus on being a really well-rounded defense and offense, and make sure when we have an opportunity to make plays that we make them,” says Faaborg. “Looking forward to another opportunity to get better, grow and mature as a football team. We’re obviously very young still at this point, we definitely don’t use that as an excuse. We go out there and expect to win every Friday night with the young team that we have, but it’s fun to watch them develop. We’re excited to go do that again this week.”
North Union (0-2, 0-1 district) was overrun in a 48-7 loss in district opener to #5(A)Saint Ansgar last week. The Warriors have been held to 14 points total this season. Senior Grady Madden has guided the offense with 177 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Faaborg says they need to be prepared to limit balanced Warrior offense.
“It’s an entirely different matchup. They’re a team that likes to spread it out, but they’re also a pretty good size football team. We need to be ready for all facets of the game. Stop the run, definitely stop the pass, which we haven’t faced a team that throws the ball a lot yet. That’ll be a new challenge and a whole new game plan this week.”
North Union won last year’s meeting 46-0 in Belmond.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Armstrong.
