The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team will return to Cowboy Stadium to defend their home field against Southeast Valley in a homecoming matchup on Friday.
C-G-D (1-1) lost 35-7 at Hampton-Dumont-CAL last week and were held without an offensive touchdown.
Cowboy Head Coach Caleb Vogel on the sources for getting their offense going.
“We have just got to get back to the small game, we like to run the ball and we got great running backs back here,” says Vogel. “It’s got to start with up front, our linemen, the core of our group and they have to continue to do the little things right. The linemen are doing a great job, we just have got to fix a few things. Our backfield is pretty strong with, Selvin Gonzalez, Charlie and Caleb. They’re just three guys that we can lean on and we will continue to keep doing that all year long.”
The backfield duo of Selvin Gonzalez with 156 yards and two touchdowns, and Charlie Campbell with 115 yards and two touchdowns have shared a bulk of the carries for the Cowboys. Huxley Lingenfelter has been a force defensively with 12.5 tackles.
Southeast Valley (1-1) ran away with a 64-0 win at Eagle Grove last week. A key presence for the Jaguars is dual threat quarterback Cale Vansickle who has passed for 334 and rushed for 175, with six total touchdowns this season
Southeast Valley won last year’s meeting 28-20 in Gowrie.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Clarion.
