The Clarksville football team will visit fellow Iowa Star Conference member Janesville to continue 8 Player- District 4 play on Friday. This will be the Indians third road game of their first four games this season.
Clarksville (2-1,1-0 district) won home opener and district opener 58-6 over Dunkerton on Thursday last week. The Indians have gotten their offense in rhythm through the ground game with 631 rushing yards. Sophomore Nathan Moon has been a game-changer with 355 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Clarksville Head Coach Darren Bohlen on offensive line play creating opportunities.
“Our offensive line really played well, they were physical and Dunkerton would blitz their linebackers quite a bit and we took care of it,” says Bohlen. “We didn’t pull as much as we normally do so we just went after them and our guys responded and were physical up front. It’s fun to have those guys block for you and give you time.”
Janesville (2-0,1-0 district) won 76-12 over GMG in their district opener on Thursday last week. The Wildcats are a heavy running team with 599 rushing yards. Senior Dane Appleby is frontrunner with 296 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.
Bohlen on the series with the Wildcats and recent lockdown defensive play.
“It’s a rivalry in the Iowa Star, you know, we battle back and forth in all sports. They’re tough, and it’s going to be a good matchup. They’re just playing outstanding. I look back and I tell the kids, it’s hard to shut an eight-man team out, to get that goose egg. Our kids, the last two weeks, have only given up one score. Credit to them, they’re just playing sound team defense and running to the football.”
Clarksville won last year’s meeting 36-15.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Janesville.
