The #6 (1A) Dike-New Hartford football team will play its final non-district game Friday when it travels to Osage.
At 1-1, the Wolverines will look to build on the offensive success of last week’s 27-0 home win over West Branch, where all the scoring happened in the second quarter. While it was a quality bounce back from a Week 1 loss to #2 (1A) Grundy Center, Head Coach Don Betts says the offensive consistency is still a work in progress.
“We’ve got some big time playmakers and we’ve got an experienced offensive line,” Betts says. “And we just aren’t quite clicking yet the way I think that we can. I’m not real concerned about it because I’m sure that we’ll get there. But we just need to work on ironing those things out. Offense is always a little behind the defense. And I think that’s where we are now. So that’ll be a focus for us, getting that consistency that we want offensively.”
Noah Borcherding is coming off a 103-yard rushing performance last week. A masterful defensive performance was bolstered by two interceptions apiece by Tyler Bakken and Carson Costello.
Osage is 1-1, and coming off last week’s 7-0 win over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, where a first quarter rushing touchdown by Madden Uhlenhopp represented the difference in the score.
Osage won 15-14 last year when the teams met in Dike. The kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
