The AGWSR football team will go for a major upset when it travels to #5 (A) Nashua-Plainfield for a district matchup Friday.

The Cougars (1-2, 1-1 A-3) will look to get back on track after a 38-9 home loss to North Tama last week, where they were held to 109 yards of total offense. Throughout the first few games, Head Coach James Koop says the offense has struggled to build an identity and has been plagued by turnovers. But he says a breakthrough may be coming.

“There’s a lot of room for improvement,” Koop says. “There’s a lot of things that film is gonna show us. And I’m still hoping, and I believe that at some point this stuff is just gonna click, but we’re not there yet. So, you know, it’s still to work in progress.”

The Huskies (3-0, 2-0 A-3) have won each game by three possessions, and have been a run-heavy team with two main running backs. They’ve rushed for 990 yards and 11 touchdowns. They’re 4/17 passing on the season, but three of the completions were for touchdowns. Koop says it’s a different-looking offense than what they faced last season.

“Their head coach left and they hired somebody from their staff. And what has shocked us is they don’t run the wing-t anymore. They’re in a two wingback offense. What coach Eckhart ran when I was his defensive coordinator. So that is an offense that we have faced, Lake Mills runs a similar offense. So there should be some familiarity for our defense. They have a few more wrinkles than Lake Mills does, but it’s been a long time since we beat Nashua-Plainfield, so it would be great to go up there and get a win.”

It’ll be the fourth straight season the teams will have met. Since 2021, the Huskies have won each game by multiple scores. The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
