The Belmond-Klemme football team off it’s first district win since 2020 (Class 1A-District 2), returns home to face a leading program in Class A District 2 in #7(A) Saint Ansgar on Friday.

Belmond-Klemme (1-2, 1-1 district) enters off a competitive district win 15-12 at North Union last week, as the Broncos passed for 262 yards. Brody Heifner (hef-ner) has stepped up in three different phases for the Broncos leading the team in passing yards (336), rushing yards (92) and tackles (23). Braden Dougherty has been a good outlet down field with 132 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

B-K Head Coach Josh Faaborg on impact of North Union win and looks ahead to facing Saints defense.

I think it is a big stepping stone for the kids, we start a pretty young lineup and we’ve had our backs against the wall a lot in these contests. For them to finally get a taste of what a victory feels like, and bring all their efforts and hard work to fruition was really exciting for them. Couldn’t be more excited for the guys,” says Faaborg. “They’re a team that’s very effective at coming downhill, stopping the run. They’re really good at reading their keys and a disciplined defense. Work is cut out for us with them. We’re ready to make some adjustments and see what we can do against them.”

Saint Ansgar (2-1, 1-1 district) lost a tough 21-20 district game at #3(A) West Hancock last week. The Saints are a heavy running team with 700 yards through three games. The Saints have four different rushers with over 100 yards and multiple touchdown carries. Korben Michels leads the backfield with 281 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Saint Ansgar won last year’s meeting 61-6 at home.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Belmond.
