The Iowa Falls-Alden football team will go for its first win of the season when it opens 2A District 6 action Friday at Union.
Not only will the Cadets be searching for their first win, they’ll try to score for the first time, having been shut out in a brutal non-district schedule. Head Coach Eric Walkingstick feels a breakthrough may soon be coming.
“We think that we’re in a good place,” Walkingstick says. “We have found some things that work. We found some things maybe don’t work as well. And at the end of the day, we’ve got to have all of our weapons ready. But we’re starting to get some degree of moxie. We’ve played well enough that we discovered a few things here and there. We’ve got to keep getting better. And it’s continued growth throughout the season and through the rest of the season. But we feel like we’ve got enough weapons on defense and offense that we can make some noise.”
The offense will look to continue to find rhythm with a variety of playmakers in a spread system. Defensively, Trevor Bailey is third in the district with 23.5 tackles.
Union (1-2) will play for the first time in two weeks. They cancelled last week’s game at West Delaware due to a member of the team being tragically killed in an automotive accident.
“Our prayers go out to Union Community Schools. It’s a tragedy that I just cannot imagine. We feel for that community and that team and you know we’re praying for them and we’re trying to help them any way we can. So for us, we just got to go back to work and get things going. But everyone I would hope would pray and help that community try to heal. I don’t know how you recover from such a tragedy. But we’re going to get ready. We’re going to play football and we’re going to go from there. We’re going to help that program, that school, any way we can.”
The kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
