The West Fork football team will play its first true home game of the season as they host Lake Mills in Class A-District 2 play on Friday.
West Fork (1-2, 0-1 district) lost 36-14 at North Butler in their final non-district game last week, as the Warhawks were held to under 100 yards passing and rushing. The Warhawks will look to get the offense cooking again through their run game, which has the third most rushing yards in the district with 624. Dax Suntken leads the running core with 263 yards and six touchdowns.
West Fork Head Coach Dan Westhoff on what Lake Mills brings to the matchup.
“They returned a lot of good kids from a playoff team last year, and then they’ve really took it to us the last two years,” says Westhoff. “There’s no easy outs, and it’s gonna be another challenge, I have no doubt about that. They run the double-wing offense up there, and they do a really nice job. We’ve really had issues trying to slow them down the past couple years. Hopefully we can hold up a little better and then have a competitive homecoming game at home.”
Lake Mills (1-2, 0-1 district) lost 30-14 at home to Newman Catholic in their district opener last week. The Bulldogs have the fourth most rushing yards in the district with 601. Two backs have shared a bulk of the carries, as Carter Christianson has 335 yards and Landon Price has 213 yards with three combined touchdowns.
West Fork will look for their first win in the series since 2018. Lake Mills won last year’s meeting 50-13 at home.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Sheffield.
