The Aplington-Parkersburg football team was neutralized in its efforts to pick up its first win of the season, falling 43-0 at MFL MarMac Friday, as aired on 99 The Wave.

The Bulldogs took advantage of favorable field position throughout the first half, with the entire first quarter being played in Falcon territory. They used a variety of offensive playmakers to score touchdowns on their first four possessions, while forcing the Falcons to punt on their first four possessions. Late in the first half, the Falcons strung some plays together to get into the red zone, but a turnover on downs set MFL MarMac up for a 44-yard field goal to end the half.

Freshman Devin Eberhart gave the Falcon offense a boost in the second half with eight carries for 46 yards in his first varsity appearance, but the inability to convert on fourth downs prevented scoring opportunities.

“We played the whole first quarter, I don’t think we ever got the ball to the other side of the field,” Thomas says. “We’ve got to be able to get to where we can move it, and then after the first quarter we did move it a little and did some some better things. Defensively early, they just marched it on us at will. Good job by Coach Lynch, we made the adjustment defensively, went back to our four-front, we had the five in, back to the four, and I thought our guys were better. We’ve just got to keep working on our tackling, because I thought we were there quite a few times. They’ve got some strong, physical running backs, but we’re going to see more of those throughout the year. So we’ve just got to finish and tackle. But you know, I thought our guys never quit. I was proud of that. It would have been easy, especially early, when we got down, you know, 20, 27, to get the clock running. And our guys did not do that. They continued to battle. So very proud of that.”

Despite the loss, AP took a step in the right direction by cutting down the number of turnovers. They committed two after committing eight against South Hardin.

Eli Hanson and Parker Kuehl each scored two Bulldog rushing touchdowns. Quinn McGeough had an 89-yard touchdown rush and Carter Stoddard found Hunter Christofferson for a passing touchdown. McGeough finished with 216 rushing yards and Hanson had 112.

Creyton Eberhart led the Falcons with 13 carries for 52 yards.

AP (0-4, 0-1 1A-3) will host Denver next week.
