In the girls race, the Wolverines placed fifth with 135 points, just ahead of sixth place Aplington-Parkersburg, which scored 139. Falcon senior Quinnlyn Schultz was the top local finisher at 12th in 22:19, and says it was a quality race to build upon.
“It wasn’t quite a PR, but tonight was definitely a good night with the cooler temperatures, and it was a good course with good competition,” Schultz says. “Hudson and Denver are both really good teams and have really good pack runners that can help push us all throughout the race.”
Hanna Steffen led the Wolverine girls with a 25th place finish in 23:22. South Hardin’s Mya Wilaby was the only Tiger girls varsity runner, and placed 16th in 22:46.
The Dike-New Hartford boys placed fourth with 143 points, highlighted by a personal-best time of 18:44 by Bryan Munguia-Chavez to place 19th.
“Very excited, especially since the past few meets, I haven’t been feeling great,” Munguia-Chavez says. “But today, I feel like I brought my best, maybe close to my best, and made sure I didn’t go out hard, conserved a little, and then built up my race and gave it my all. This is my second year of cross country. So definitely, with that little bit of experience, I knew what to do over the summer. And hard work pays off, and really got to see that today.”
In fifth place with 150 points, South Hardin was led by a 23rd place finish by Gavin Runyon in 19:35. Aplington-Parkersburg placed 10th, led by Ty Luhring’s 20th place finish in 18:45.
