A lack of rain has been causing a few issues as the harvest continues.
ISU Extension Field Agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz tells RadioOnTheGo News that a little moisture could help the soybean fields.
“Some of our soybeans were so dry a couple weeks ago, and it was in the 90s every day, and it was really hot and windy. People were literally shattering soybeans. They were so dry, they were falling out of the pod as that combine reel was hitting them. And when that happens, they don’t always end up in the combine, right? They end up on the ground. A little bit of moisture to keep those bean pods from shattering is not a bad thing.”
Rieck-Hinz says soybean yields in her area have been ranging between 30-80 bushels an acre, while the corn yields have been ranging between 130-230 bushels an acre.
