Local schools will join a wide range of competition at Thursday’s Sam Iverson Cross Country Invitational at Grundy Center. Aplington-Parkersburg, South Hardin and the hosts will be among teams in attendance.
Falcon coach Jonna Junker says the course at Town & Country Golf Club presents some challenges.
“It’s kind of a zigzag up and down hill. So it doesn’t look that hilly, but you have to run them quite a few times. So I would say it’s probably not one of the favorites, but like I tell the kids, we’re not the only ones having to run the hills. So I think as long as we go in with a positive mind frame, we can go and get it done.”
The Grundy Center boys could contend for a home championship. Emerson Vokes enters with the fastest time in the field at 15:39, and Jayce Fryslie has the ninth-fastest time at 17:55. AP’s Trevan Thomas has the eighth-fastest time in the field at 17:52.
Grundy Center’s girls have one runner in the top 10; Grace Storjohann’s mark of 20:25 ranks fourth among competitors.
The first varsity race will be at 4:45 p.m.
