The Aplington-Parkersburg football team will play at home for the first time since Week 2 when it hosts Denver in a district matchup Friday.

The Falcons (0-4, 0-1 1A-3) will search for their first win after three straight blowout losses, including a 43-0 loss at MFL MarMac last week. Interim coach Aaron Thomas says the offense has shown glimmers of hope, and it’ll be a critical test.

“We were able to move the ball at times, just not consistently enough to put points on the board,” Thomas says. “We know that we’re gonna have to score some points as Denver, they are scoring and they’ve got some guys who are major deep ball threats and with Reiter and Schoville, just extremely fast. Joerger is a very good sophomore quarterback who’s thrown for over 800 yards on the year, eight touchdowns passing, so we know we’re gonna have to put some points on the board. We do feel that we can move the ball. Central Springs able to move it, but if you can’t put it in the end zone, it doesn’t matter. So we know we’ve got to finish drives this week and that’s kind of been a focus.”

While the Falcons didn’t score last week, they were much more secure with the ball with two turnovers, compared to eight the week before.

Denver (2-2, 1-0 1A-3) got back on track with last week’s 34-12 win over Central Springs. They’re the district’s only primary passing team, with 838 passing yards to only 329 rushing yards. Last week, Jackson Joerger passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. at Ed Thomas Field.
