This week Rock Run Elementary School in the Iowa Falls School District was named as one of five 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools in Iowa.

Rock Run Principal Kyle Fett tells RadioOnTheGo News that his building has about 300 students.

“At all schools we have hardworking teachers and staff, not just Rock Run where we have the hardworking staff and things that we’re proud of. I know that schools everywhere have education as one of those careers where you get into it and you may not hear about the impact that you’re making on a day to day basis. You may not know about it even at the end of a year, but when students leave and come back often you get that wow this is how you changed my life I really enjoyed this part of your class and so that’s typically down the road recognition that staff members get so to have an award like this to recognize the hard work that has been put in is really something that you don’t get very often but it’s definitely appreciated.”

Fett says they will continue to look at ways to improve learning for the students.

“We’ve got some training that we’re doing with the AEA and with our schools where we’re looking to improve our literacy instruction and always looking at ways that we can improve our intervention. We have just our support system. Students are coming in with more and more need. Their social-emotional needs are more and more. And so we’re always trying to equip ourselves with more tools on how we can support students. And what makes this job great is that we enjoy coming to work every day and being around fellow staff members that we know that we’re all in it together, we can lean on each other, and we’ve built those solid relationships.”

The other Iowa schools named as Blue Ribbon Schools are located in Aurelia, Decorah, Fontanelle, and Rock Valley.
