Grundy Center junior Emerson Vokes earned the boys individual title at Thursday’s Sam Iverson Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the Spartans at Town & Country Golf Club. He won the race six seconds slower than his season-best at 15:45.
As a team, the Spartans placed fifth with 158 points. Among other notables, Jayce Fryslie earned a 10th place finish in 18:15.
South Hardin placed fourth with 155 points, led by a 19th place finish by Gavin Runyon in 19:15.
Aplington-Parkersburg placed 16th with 466 points. Their top finisher was Cade Drehobl, placing 92nd in 24:21, a season-best.
Grace Storjohann led the Spartan girls to a third place finish with 106 points by placing fourth in 20:57.
Aplington-Parkersburg was led by Quinnlyn Schultz, who placed 20th in 22:59. The Falcons placed ninth with 223 points.
South Hardin’s girls did not have a complete team. Mya Wilaby led the Tigers with a 16th place finish in a season-best time of 22:37.
