The Aplington-Parkersburg football team recorded its long-awaited first win of the season when they defeated Denver 42-26 at home Friday.

After giving up a touchdown to Denver on the opening kickoff, the Falcons stayed the course and put together their most impressive performance so far. Freshman Mason Pruisner had 20 carries for 157 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman Devan Eberhart got a rushing score and a receiving touchdown on a pass by Benny Waller. Head Coach Aaron Thomas says it was a big moment for his team.

“Just so happy for our kids,” Thomas says. “They’ve kept showing up to work, and it paid off for them last night against Denver. And just to see our confidence grow, we didn’t punt, we had some turnovers and things, but we never had to punt the ball and you could just see our guys’ confidence and just continue to play more and more physical. And so good to get one and make it good going into homecoming, but we’ve got to make sure we refocus with Central Springs coming Friday.”

The defense was excelling by forcing Denver to be one-dimensional in the passing game. They held the Cyclones to -32 rushing yards and 10 tackles for loss.

AP (1-4, 1-1 1A-3) will host Central Springs next week for Homecoming.
