Another way to look at how dry this month has been in Iowa is to look at the precipitation percent of average through this weekend.
In portions of Hancock and Wright Counties, along with most of Cerro Gordo, the northern one-half of Franklin, a portion of Floyd, and almost all of Butler and Grundy Counties, the precipitation percent of average for this month has been between 10-20 percent of normal.
The highest county in the local area is Hardin, which has received about 40 percent of the average rainfall this month.
For large areas of western and eastern Iowa, they have received less than 10 percent of the normal rainfall for this month.
Iowa is on pace to have the driest September in recorded history.
