The #6(1A) South Hardin football team is off to a 5-0 start after a dominant 48-0 win at East Marshall on Friday.

South Hardin led 7-0 after the first quarter. The Tigers upped the tempo on offense in the second quarter putting 27 points on the board in the frame to hold a 34-0 lead at the half. South Hardin added a touchdown apiece in the third and fourth quarters to close out the shutout win. The Tigers were balanced offensively with 251 passing yards and 232 rushing yards. The Tigers defense limited the Mustangs to 128 passing yards and only 65 rushing yards.

Tigers Head Coach Nick Eller on the defensive stand for the shutout and continuing to play team football.

“We got to 5-0, which is a great feat for our program and got ourselves ready for a big matchup next week,” says Eller. “Pressure by our D-line, shut down their running game for the most part. A few passes they hit, which were good plays and we really didn’t have horrible coverage. Then there’s a few where we did a really good job coming in and making a clean tackle or a clean break on the ball. It was a good three phases from our D-line, our linebacking group, and then our secondary group, I thought they just all worked together well tonight. We’ve gotta be that way, if we wanna be a good team going forward. Keep defenses on their toes, so they can’t focus on one guy and one thing. Playing good team football, that’s where we really got to excel.”

This was the Tigers second shutout of the season, the last was a 27-0 win over Iowa Falls-Alden on September 6th.

Peyton Welch was 15-20 for 251 passing yards, with two touchdowns and also a rushing touchdown. Jaxon Drury on 12 carries rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns.

South Hardin (5-0, 2-0 1A-4) has set the table for a marquee matchup against #1(1A) Grundy Center at home on Friday.
