The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team was limited on scoring opportunities in a 28-10 homecoming loss to #7(3A) Humboldt on Friday.

The Bulldogs got on the board with a 22 yard field goal by Hunter Rieken that cut it to a 14-3 lead for the Wildcats in the second quarter. Humboldt found the endzone one more time before halftime to extend their lead to 21-3. H-D-CAL following halftime adjustments answered on their opening drive of the third with a touchdown carry by Ryder Strother to make it 21-10. Humboldt added another touchdown in the third quarter touchdown to go up 28-10 and wrap up the scoring.
Bulldog Head Coach Cole Miller on areas to build upon and how the seniors help refocus the team for their next opponent.
“We were able to run the ball pretty efficiently. We were able to be a little more dynamic and pass the ball with some success,” says Miller. “Our defense, we had to switch up and kind of lighten the box to stop their air raid attack. We were still able to shut that ground game down for the most part. There are a lot of positives that we can take away from the game and build upon. I know our kids, they’ll respond, they’ll come back, they’ll come ready to work, they’ll get to the grindstone and keep getting better. I’m happy with the senior leadership that we have. They take charge and make sure that those guys are ready to go and doing those little things right.”
Ryder Strother went 11-23 for 93 passing yards, had 37 rushing yards and a touchdown. Colin Bird led all rushers with 13 carries for 67 yards. Taylor Mahler led the Bulldog defense with six tackles and two sacks.
H-D-CAL (2-3, 0-1 3A-2) will be at Webster City on Friday.
