The #12 (2A) Grundy Center volleyball team will host East Marshall for Senior Night and the NICL-West finale Tuesday.

The Spartans (17-10, 2-1 NICL-W) are locked into second place in the division standings. They’re coming off a 2-2 outing at Saturday’s tournament at Cedar Falls, where they were tested by Class 5A competition. Head Coach Lori Willis says the match will be a great opportunity to get back on track and bring momentum into next week’s NICL Tournament.

“We should be able to do exactly what we want to do, provided that we take care of business, serve aggressive, take care of free balls, get everybody involved in the offense, just have high energy,” Willis says. “So it’s just an opportunity to maybe fine tune some things, work on the little things, because when the game might be just a little bit easier, you need more disciplined so that you can have that discipline when the game is hard.”

East Marshall (7-17, 0-3 NICL-W) picked up some momentum by going 3-2 at Saturday’s tournament at South Tama, where they won three straight matches to close the day. In fact, it’s their longest win streak of the season. However, the team hits .013 on the season and hasn’t won a set against any of its NICL opponents.
Grundy Center has swept all 13 meetings in the Bound era series.

The first serve will be at 7:30 p.m.
