Grundy Center junior Emerson Vokes ran not only a personal record, but set the new fastest time of the season in Class 2A boys cross country when he crossed the finish line in 15:20 to win Tuesday’s Jesup Invitational. Vokes, the top-ranked runner in Class 2A, held the previous fastest time of the season in Class 2A of 15:39.
Vokes and Jayce Fryslie, who placed 36th, helped lead the Spartans to a 15th place finish, with no other teammates placing in the top 100. Dike-New Hartford’s Bryan Munguia-Chavez ran a new PR of 17:27 to place 28th and lead the Wolverines to an 11th place finish. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Ty Luhring placed 27th in 17:27 to set a new PR and help the Falcons to place 15th.
#30 (2A) Grace Storjohann of Grundy Center ran a PR of 19:38 to place fifth and lead the Spartans to a fifth place finish. Each teammate ran either a PR or season-best. Dike-New Hartford placed 10th, and was led by Hanna Steffen’s season-best 22:03 to place 42nd. The Wolverines ran an impressive spread of 1:14. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Quinnlyn Schultz ran a PR of 21:00 to place 23rd and lead the Falcons to a 15th place finish.
