Grundy Center’s Vokes resets fastest 2A XC time in winning DNH Invitational

For the second consecutive week, Grundy Center junior Emerson Vokes set a new PR and new fastest time of the season in Class 2A boys cross country when he won Tuesday’s Dike-New Hartford Invitational in 15:12. It was one week after setting the standard by running 15:20 at Jesup on Tuesday, October 1.

The Spartans finished 17th in the team race with 396 points. Iowa Falls-Alden placed 10th with 301 points, led by a PR of 18:20 by Sam Kirchoff to place 39th. Dike-New Hartford’s Bryan Munguia-Chavez ran a PR of 17:20 to place 18th and lead the Wolverines to a ninth place finish with 248 points. Ty Luhring was Aplington-Parkersburg’s only competitor, placing 26th in 17:42.

In the girls race, Demi Beaubien of Iowa Falls-Alden placed eighth in a PR of 19:36, leading the Cadets to a fourth place finish with 147 points. Piper Smith placed 14th with a PR of 19:56. Grundy Center was led by a ninth place finish by Grace Storjohhann in 19:39, and the Spartans placed sixth with 193 points. Hanna Steffen placed 36th in a PR of 21:26, helping lead Dike-New Hartford to a 10th place finish with 261 points. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Quinnlyn Schultz placed 22nd in a PR of 20:37, leading the Falcons to an 11th place finish with 271 points.
