The AGWSR and Belmond-Klemme football teams will both look to end losing streaks with a solid non-district win, as they meet under the lights on Friday. It will also be AGWSR’s senior night as the Cougars recognize 10 seniors.
AGWSR (1-5, 0-5 A-3) has lost four straight games including a 46-0 loss to Wapsie Valley last week. The Cougars will look to rekindle their offense and defense after being limited to nine points or less and allowing over 40 points to opponents in their last four games. Senior Collin Willems leads the offense with 559 passing yards and five total touchdowns. Senior Carter Roder has done a good job of getting downhill with a team leading 53 tackles.
AGWSR Head Coach James Koop’s scouting report on the Broncos.
“They look fast. Now film can sometimes be deceiving because you don’t know how fast other teams they’re playing are,” says Koop. “They do some things off of play action that we have to be aware of defensively. Offensively, we just have to make sure we stick with our assignments. I’m looking forward to us playing somebody where our kids age-wise and due to age, probably strength-wise will match up with somebody a little bit better than we have been the last four weeks.”
Belmond-Klemme (1-5, 0-5 A-2) has lost three straight games including a 27-13 loss to Lake Mills last week. The Broncos enter this matchup working to recover from injuries to multiple starters in their game against Lake Mills. The Broncos balanced offense has two quarterbacks with varsity reps including sophomore Brody Heifner and senior Jose Alfaro. Heifner entering this week leads the team with 684 passing yards, 281 rushing yards, seven total touchdowns and 32 tackles.

“Both of them know all the insides and outs of the offense. They know where to put guys, little corrections to make. No matter who rolls there, we’re confident that either one of those two can lead offense,” says Faaborg. “Stay balanced. We want to establish the run, but we’re really confident in our pass game and some of our athletes that we have on the perimeter. Our focus is always stop the run first and then get them into passing situations. We’re confident in our defensive backfield and the growth that they’ve made so far this year to keep everything in front of them and make some plays back there.”
AGWSR is 5-2 all time in the series and won last year’s meeting 41-0 in Belmond.
