The #1 (1A) Grundy Center football team will make its first-ever visit to Alburnett when the teams meet in Week 7 Friday.
The Spartans (6-0, 3-0 1A-4) is coming off one of its biggest regular season wins in recent history, a 35-0 triumph at #7 (1A) South Hardin last week. With quality balance on offense and stifling defensive gameplans, the Spartans have proven themselves to again be a contender in Class 1A.
Alburnett (4-2, 2-1 1A-4) will go for the upset after consecutive wins over Waterloo Columbus and Hudson, where the offense heated up with 54 and 47 points. The Pirates have also shown great balance offensively, slightly favoring the run.
Grundy Center coach Travis Zajac says his team will be ready for the long trip.
“It’ll be a unique one for us,” Zajac says. “Rarely do we have to travel that far east for a district game. So it’ll be a longer bus trip. We were able to handle that a couple weeks ago when we went down to Pella Christian. But we’ve got to make sure we’re really dialed in, pay attention to what Alburnett does. A much improved program from last year. They’ve got a couple good wins on the record now. So it’ll be a stern test for us, but one that I know our kids will be able to rise up and play well.”
The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
