The West Fork football team will look to slow down Class A power #3(A)Saint Ansgar in a Class A District 2 matchup on Friday. It will also be the Warhawks senior night as they recognize five seniors including Jarren Hitzhusen, Cannen Vold, Austin Carlson, Jasper Jones and Nolan Shreckengost.

West Fork (1-5, 0-4 A-2) lost 42-13 at home to North Union in district play last week. The Warhawks ability to run the football has been core to what they do with 1,098 yards. Dax Suntken leads the backfield with 431 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. The defense has been tested allowing 27 points or more in their last three district games.

West Fork Head Coach Dan Westhoff on the soundness of Saints program and matching physicality.

“They’re as good as they’ve ever been, and certainly recently. We’re going to have to be physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to play on Friday night, because it’s going to be a really tough task for us,” says Westhoff. “An enormous challenge to slow them down. Really good with what they do offensively, and they’re just so sound. Don’t beat themselves, and they’re really physical. The challenge is going to be to match the physicality and just go compete. We’re going keep our heads up and just do our best.”

Saint Ansgar (5-1, 3-1 A-2) won 60-0 over Newman Catholic in district play last week. The Saints power through a heavy running offense with 1,700 rushing yards (second most in district). Korben Michels with 630 yards and eight touchdowns and Tyson Kilne with 444 yards and eight touchdowns share a bulk of the carries. The Saints defense has allowed 14 points or less in three of four district games.

The Saints won last year’s meeting 69-8 at home, the Warhawks will look for first ever win in the series.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Sheffield.
