The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team fell behind early and was unable to sustain momentum in Friday’s 36-0 loss at home to Clear Lake in Week 7.

The Lions were opportunistic, racking up four touchdowns in the first half and another in the second half to put the running clock rule in effect. The Bulldogs threw three interceptions and surrendered a fumble, ending any offensive momentum. Head Coach Cole Miller says a variety of factors contributed to coming up short.

“Clear Lake is are really good football team,” Miller says. “They played well tonight. We were in position to do some things early on. We had them defensively, had them in some third and long, fourth and long situations. And then we’d get an offsides penalty or we’d miss a few tackles or let a guy run free in the pass game. So we just weren’t able to put it together for four downs on defense. And then offensively we’d get going. We’d have a couple of nice run plays, but then kind of the same story, we’d shoot ourselves in the foot somehow, whether it be missing a block or an errant throw or putting the ball on the ground. So just weren’t able to play consistent enough tonight to hang with a really good Clear Lake team.”

Hampton-Dumont-CAL (2-5, 0-3 3A-2) will return to action in Week 8 at Charles City on 104.9 KLMJ.
