Members of the Parkersburg City Council this week discussed railroad crossing grants to install safety gates at the 2nd Street and 3rd Street intersections with the railroad.

Due to the number of traffic accidents at these crossings, the Iowa Department of Transportation requested the city do everything it can to improve safety and to remove line of sight and property encroachment issues in the area.

The Parkersburg City Council also tabled the hiring of an on-call equipment operator to assist the public works department until a legal opinion can be provided about any liability risk for the removal of snow/ice in the downtown business district.
