The Iowa Falls-Alden football team was limited on endzone trips as they lost their second straight Class 2A- District 6 game 35-6 at Jesup on Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jesup in the second quarter scored 28 unanswered points. IFA got on the board with a touchdown reception by Karsen Kalous right before halftime to end the J-Hawks shutout bid, which made it 28-6 at the half. The J-Hawks made one more endzone trip in the fourth quarter to cap off scoring. The Cadets kept the ball moving in drives with 237 rushing yards and 104 passing yards but were turned away from additional scoring opportunities by mistakes and battling through injuries.

IFA Head Coach Eric Walkingstick on the impact of challenges snowballing against the J-Hawks.

“We started off whenever we come out on defense we did a good job, we came out offense, we were moving the ball,” says Walkingstick. “We ended up getting a penalty, and I think that was kind of the spiral we got into. We mentally got out of it, because it felt like, we’re going to create a lot of mistakes at big points. It cost us, because we got our head down. We gave them a big second quarter. At the end of the day, you can’t play with your head down and have success. We let them have a lot of success early on. It was just a perfect storm of all the things that could go wrong, went wrong. Mentally we got ourselves down and by the time we were able to get our head up and recover, we’d already dug a pretty deep hole.”

Cade Olberding was 10/17 for 60 passing yards and a touchdown. Andrew Bartlett in relief at quarterback had 95 rushing yards and 44 passing yards. Karsen Kalous added seven receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown for the Cadets.

Iowa Falls-Alden (2-5, 2-2 2A-6) will host #2(2A)PCM for senior night this Friday.
