The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team hosted nine different programs from Class 1A to Class 3A including locally Iowa Falls-Alden for its annual home tournament on Saturday. #7(3A)Kuemper Catholic was the tournament champion as they went 5-0.
H-D-CAL went 2-2 at the tournament with 2-0 wins over Iowa Falls-Alden (21-1,21-13) and Independence (21-19, 21-16), and 2-0 losses to Charles City (21-17, 21-15) and #1(1A)Ankeny Christian (21-18, 21-10). Setter Aubree Gronewold collected 36 assists, with a top mark for the day of 10 apiece against IFA and Ankeny Christian. Aubryee Showalter led the front line with 28 kills, with a match best for the day of 11 against Independence. Libero Abby Drier flew around to make plays defensively with 40 digs, and a match best for the tournament of 16 against Independence to lead the Bulldogs.
IFA went 0-3 at the tournament with 2-0 losses to H-D-CAL (21-1,21-13) and #7(3A)Kuemper Catholic (22-20, 21-12), and a 2-1 loss to Independence (21-13, 19-21, 15-11). Setter Elody England had 25 assists, with a match best for the day of 12 assists against H-D-CAL. Carlea Dagel was the top hitter with 24 kills, with a match best for the tournament of nine kills apiece against H-D-CAL and Independence to lead the Cadets.
Hampton-Dumont-CAL (14-10 overall) will host Pink Out Night Quad against Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler and Lake Mills on Tuesday, which will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
Iowa Falls-Alden (5-23 overall) will host Clear Lake in their final regular season match on Thursday.
