10/14/24 – Voters in the Hampton-Dumont School District are being asked to pass a $17 million bond referendum this November. Local residents have formed a committee to help support getting the project passed. They say their group is passionate about the project and they are eager to see voters support the students as well as staff and administration with their “yes” vote.

“We have a great administration right now. They all work so well together, and their main aim is for the students in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL system. And as well as how well they work together, they have great support from the great school board members that we have.”

That’s Diane Weldin, a former Hampton Mayor and former employee of the school district who has grandchildren that currently attend school in Hampton. Weldin adds that the details of the budget prove that the project prioritizes needs, not wants.

“Things that are on the table are a definite need, not just a want, but a definite need to attract the great administration that we already have, the teachers that we already have, and those that are ready to retire will be able to attract new teachers, quality teachers.”

Robyn Hansen is a Hampton-Dumont graduate whose kids attend the district. Her husband, Brent serves on the school board and Hansen says she feels it’s time for the community to show their support for the staff and administration by supporting the proposed facility upgrades.

“I believe Hampton Dumont has an amazing staff and the administration has gone above and beyond to put their 100% trust in our students and schools and I think we need the community to really step forward and come together and support in any way they can.”

Two community meetings remain to learn more about the vote and proposed projects. The next will be Wednesday (Oct. 16) with a tour beginning at 5:30 and meeting scheduled at 6:00 p.m. at Hampton-Dumont High School.
