Former Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Bob Balek of Mason City died this past Friday. He was 95 years old.
Balek first worked as a jailer, and then became a Cerro Gordo deputy sheriff.
In the late 1980’s, Balek was appointed as sheriff, winning the election in 1988 and serving until his retirement in 1995.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob Balek will be held Friday at 10:30am at the Epiphany Parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.
