Belmond-Klemme Takes on West Fork in Regular Season Finale on Friday

bk-2

The Belmond-Klemme football team will look for their first win over West Fork since 2021, as the programs meet in a regular season finale in A-2 on Friday. It will also be the Broncos senior night as they recognize eight seniors.

Belmond-Klemme (2-5, 1-4 A-2) ended a three game slide with a 26-21 non-district win at AGWSR last week. The Broncos win over AGWSR was their best scoring performance of the season with 242 rushing yards, 162 passing yards. The quarterback and running back duo of Jose Alfaro (162 passing and two touchdowns) and Braeden Wright (205 rushing yards, two touchdowns) stepped up with timely explosive plays to put the Broncos over the top. The defense has done a good job of wrapping up with 306.5 tackles (second in district).

B-K Head Coach Josh Faaborg on senior night atmosphere and the Warhawks style of play.

Excited to honor our seniors, number one, a really fun group of kids to coach. It’ll be a really fun atmosphere with a lot of family back for the last regular season game of the year, always get excited for that one,” says Faaborg. “I did watch a little Warhawk film. They’re a team that plays very, very hard. We’re gonna have to make sure that our effort is there to match or exceed that. Expect another battle for four quarters with them.”

West Fork (1-6, 0-5 A-2) lost 53-0 to #2(A)Saint Ansgar at home last week in district play to extend a six game losing streak. The Warhawks will look to break through a trend of scoring 17 points or less against district opponents. An ability to run the ball has been vital to the Warhawks offense with 1,093 yards this season. Two backs have rushed for over 300 yards, Dax Suntken with 424 yards and Blaine Schulz with 311 yards. The Warhawks defense has held tight with eight fumble recoveries (tied for first in district).

West Fork Head Coach Dan Westhoff on the Broncos investment in the game and the Warhawks withstanding the storm of a regular season finale.

“With B-K you can see the buy-in and the investment from those kids with how they play on film. Doesn’t matter if it’s the first play of the game, last play of the game, what the score is,” says Westhoff. “It’s going to be an exciting game, a great opportunity for us, we need to be ready to go. We need to be amped up and excited to play because I guarantee you they’re going to be ready to go. We need to match that enthusiasm, that intensity, and we need to be ready to withstand the storm. We can’t ride the roller coaster of emotions. There’s going to be highs and lows, we got to stay steady and worry about the next play. That’s gonna be a great atmosphere. It’s gonna be an exciting game.”

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Belmond.
