The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team was outmatched at Union in Tuesday’s 3A Region 3 quarterfinal, falling 3-0, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The Bulldogs fell 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 to close their season.

In set 1, Union used a 10-point scoring run to go up 16-5 and take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs got a little closer in set 2, and gained some momentum in set 3. Hampton-Dumont-CAL led 5-1, but was unable to hang on after a surge by the Knights finished the sweep. Head Coach Sarah Miller says it was a night of inconsistency and being caught out of system.

“Unfortunately we started off a little slow, just not able to execute when we needed to,” Miller says. “Obviously we did some great things in set one, but we weren’t able to put it all together. In set two, we moved to a five-one. I felt like we came out a little bit stronger. Our backs were getting a lot of great touches, but we just weren’t able to put it down on their side. We missed some crucial serves tonight that I don’t feel is really typical of our season, so I feel like that kind of hurt us. But the momentum that we were getting in set three, I felt like we came out really strong. We were even ahead there a couple of times, but unfortunately we just couldn’t keep that consistency that we’ve been really trying to work on.”

Aubryee Showalter led with eight kills and 10 digs, and Abby Drier had each of the team’s three aces.

Through the leadership of nine seniors, the program finished its first winning season since 2011 at 17-12.
