Cross country teams and individuals will put their seasons on the line at Wednesday’s Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at Waverly-Shell Rock. BK-CGD, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and IFA/AGWSR will be among the teams in attendance.
IFA/AGWSR coach Michael Rottink says his student-athletes have tailored their seasons to be running as fast as possible for this meet.
“They know what they’re capable of, and a lot of them had personal goals as well,” Rottink says. “A lot of them have of shattered some PRs, so we’re finishing on a high note. We’re looking forward to what the rest of the season brings for us.”
The top three teams and top 15 individuals will advance to the state meet. IFA/AGWSR junior Demi Beaubien’s best time of 19:57 ranks as the fifth-fastest time in the field. Teammate Piper Smith has the 20th-fastest time in the field, and is looking at shaving off 20 seconds to enter the top 15.
No local student-athletes rank in the top 50 in the boys race. The projected cutoff time is 16:40.
The girls race will start at 4:00 p.m., followed by the boys race at 4:30 at Max Championship Cross Country Course on the Wartburg College campus.
