In a three-set match that lasted only 48 minutes, the #5 (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg volleyball team easily defeated Ogden 3-0 in Wednesday’s 2A Region 5 quarterfinal, as aired on 99 The Wave. The Falcons won 25-10, 25-7, 25-7.

The Falcons used aggressive serving to gain large leads in what was by far their most dominant best-of-five match of the season. The team had eight aces and 11 service errors, which accounted for nearly half of Ogden’s points. While Head Coach Candace Kleespies hopes to increase the ace to error ratio moving forward in the postseason, she says her team was ready for the task.

“We’ve told them all year long, we just we got to come out and play our game,” Kleespies says. “And we just want to make sure that no matter who we’re playing across the net, that we’re ready to go and we come out with an aggressiveness and just ready to take care of business.”

Peyton Klooster led with 13 kills and four aces, including a stretch of three aces in a row. She anticipates this win will give the team postseason momentum.

“Good to start off the postseason with a win,” Klooster says. “I know we’ve been working really really hard in practice, so definitely I feel like it shows. I hope that we’re able to move on for these next two games and give it all we got.”

Jenzen Klooster had eight kills. Kolbie Wangsness had three kills and three aces.

AP (34-6) will host Lake Mills in Monday’s regional semifinal.
