The #10 (2A) Grundy Center volleyball team will host Emmetsburg in a 2A Region 6 semifinal Monday.
The Spartans (24-15) will carry the momentum of last week’s 3-0 regional quarterfinal win over Panorama, where they hit a sizzling .337 to leave no doubt. Head Coach Lori Willis says the rise of sophomore middle hitter Ryanne Brubaker has given the team a boost in matches, being tough to stop with 3.1 kills per set while hitting .405.
Emmetsburg (25-5) was the co-champion of the Twin Lakes Conference, and enters with among the fewest losses among Class 2A. They faced a close battle in Wednesday’s regional quarterfinal over Alta-Aurelia, where they earned a sweep, but gave up no fewer than 21 points in a set. Three players average more than two kills per set, led by Calista Joyce with 2.8.
The first serve will be at 7:00 p.m., The winner will advance to Wednesday’s regional final against either #6 (2A) South Hardin or Ridge View.
