Yesterday about 6:20pm the Iowa State Patrol was called out on the report of a two vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 at the 162 mile marker in Franklin County.
A 2015 Buick Encore driven by 62-year-old James Coombes of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota was southbound on I-35 in the left hand lane when he struck a deer. Coombes pulled to the right lane and was then rear ended by a 2013 Kia Rio driven by 26-year-old Jacob Hernandez of Mankato, Minnesota.
The Coombes vehicle ended up in the median while the Hernandez vehicle came to rest in the right hand lane.
The two drivers and a passenger in the Hernandez vehicle were transported to area medical facilities for treatment of unknown injuries.
