The Belmond-Klemme girls basketball team will field an upperclassmen-heavy group led by five senior returners and joined by six juniors this season. The Broncos went 12-11 last season.
Head Coach James Severson on the returning group of seniors and reinforcements beside them.
“We have two first team all-conference players with Addy Lamb and Quinn Gabrielson, and are gonna be huge leaders for us this year as well. We’ll have a couple other seniors that are gonna play some major roles for us as well, Shaylee Aguilera and Caylee Kuhlers are gonna be huge for us,” says Severson. “Their a large senior class that we can kind of lean on. It will also be growing things with some of our juniors that haven’t played as much at the varsity level.”
Senior Adasyn Lamb returns as the Broncos’ leading scorer at 17.4 points per game, along with a team-best 203 rebounds and 81 assists last season. Senior Quinn Gabrielson returns as the second leading scorer at 14 points per game and 66 assists last season. Senior Caylee Kuhlers helped clean up the boards with 167 rebounds, which was the second most on the team last season.
Severson on a team goal entering the new season.
“Team chemistry on the defensive side of the ball. We’ll have a couple new starters for us this year. We are bringing back a lot of talent from that junior class, now seniors. It’ll be kind of getting them to all work on the same page and the same pace. We’re working definitely already in the offseason with team chemistry. A lot of these girls are friends and hang out outside of the basketball court as well, so that helps. It’ll be the communication piece and working on that. Then making sure that the girls understand where they’re supposed to be and what they’re supposed to be doing.”
