Less snow does not always mean fewer vehicle crashes in Iowa

The less snow does not always mean you are good to go.

According to the National Weather Service, Iowa DOT, and Iowa State Patrol, nearly 75 percent of crashes in Iowa happened in less than 2 inches of snow from 2018-2020.

35-point-1 percent of crashes took place with a trace to 1 inch of snow on the ground, followed by 21-point-2 percent for a trace, and 17-point-9 percent when 1-2 inches of snow had fallen.

When 6 or more inches of snow fell, the percent of weather-related crashes stood at 3-point-6.

If traveling, slow down, and allow plenty of space between vehicles.
