The AP/GC and AGWSR girls wrestling teams will begin their seasons at Thursday’s South Tama Invitational.
The Falcons will be led by returning state qualifiers Grace Storjohann at 120 and Zoey Uhlenhopp at 155.
“They’ve been great leaders first so far,” AP/GC coach Joel Reints says. “They came in the room this year with a ton of confidence after Grace getting seventh at state and Zoey being a first year wrestler, qualifying for state, and now she’s taking on a little bigger leadership role in our team. She actually got a late start because of the state volleyball, which was a great experience for her. So yeah, those two have been great. And like I said, they’re looking to have a great season.”
The Cougars will have very little returning varsity experience with an underclassmen-heavy lineup. Sophomore Madison Ibeling is coming off a 4-7 season at 110 last year, and is the only member of the roster that has wrestled at the varsity level.
The tournament will include numerous other schools of varying sizes. Action will begin at 5:00 p.m.
