Belmond City Council discusses financing for a new swimming pool

This week the Belmond City Council held a public hearing on proposed Amendment #1 to the Belmond Commercial Urban Renewal Plan.

This amendment will allow the city to move quicker in constructing a new swimming pool.  The vote was 2-1 in favor of the amendment, with two members absent from the council meeting.

The Belmond City Council was informed that if a resolution is passed on December 2nd without a petition, then the city would move forward with construction bids in February or March and would actually receive the bonds after that point.

The city wants to issue bonds not to exceed 3-million dollars for the swimming pool project.

In other business, the Belmond council was informed that the City of Clarion Police Department would charge $85 an hour to cover any shifts for the Belmond Police Department due to being short staffed.  The consensus of the city council in Belmond was to move forward on that agreement.
